My daughter started her junior year of high school a couple of months ago, and I hope I wasn’t this big of a hassle when I was 16!!! But she is your typical teenage girl: obsessed with boys, active in a bunch of clubs, and thinks she knows more than her father and I. The one major difference that kids have nowadays is technology, because when I was a kid we’d pass paper notes to each other in class. Now they can text message each other from across the school and send picture mail.

There-in lies the problem; not really with cell phone pictures, but with the 6.0 megapixel cameras. Apparently my husband had bad acne as a teen, and even though I didn’t unfortunately Karie inherited her father’s bad luck on this one. We’ve used some products to help clear it up, and even though they’ve worked for the most part she’s been left with some enlarged pores and a little discoloration. It isn’t very noticeable, but she always get self-conscious about it in pictures and has even gone through our family’s digital camera many times and deleted pictures she thought she looked bad in. And we’re talking family photos on holidays that I can never get back, and even though I was furious when I found out, I know how depressed she can get about it so recently Rick and I decided we’d give her a Christmas present she’d never forget.

Rick has a co-worker who had really bad rosacea and found a website that directed him to a specialist in the area, and after a few treatments looked like an entirely new man. He asked him for the address and when he got home we both looked at it together, because we both have no idea how this works.

It was a laser skin treatment website, and even though lasers and skin don’t sound like they mix they had a lot of information that taught us otherwise. We went to the directory and they had an article all about enlarged pores and acne, and there were more specializing in different area of laser skin treatment.

We set up an appointment for next week, and I can’t to tell Karie why she’s getting a day off of school.

I just hope she’s more excited about the treatment than missing school!
